✨Lessons from witnessing birth✨

I love this video of the mum in labour.

I was chatting to a neighbour while walking our dogs yesterday and was talking about birth. (Natural consequence of saying I’m a midwife 😂)

Witnessing birth makes me understand life so much more. I know that living life isn’t about avoiding pain or difficulty. We can’t plan our way to stop challenges from coming up.

The gift of labour is that it’s a challenge, that you can learn to allow the waves to carry you and you will be ok.

Often the negative part of birth is feeling alone or unsupported. Or that you aren’t being listened to or your opinion isn’t important.

This is why I love my job because I know that I can support women in this part of birth. I get to show up authentically as myself and without fear of birth. I trust in you and will be there to walk with you as you birth your baby in your home 🧡

Allowing feelings or contractions to flow through you requires you to feel safe and supported. It is a real challenge to allow labour to unfold when you feel stressed or unsafe.

Just like in life, when you feel safe and relaxed you can let little things and even big things roll off you. You know that you will be ok as you are firmly rooted in feeling safe and supported.

This is why I love working with birth at home as it unfolds in such a different way when you don’t have to create a feeling of safety in a new place.
